Thousands of runners took to the streets of Swansea today for Wales’ biggest summer running festival as the Swansea University Swansea Half Marathon returned with another record-breaking year.

Over 7,500 participants registered for the 2025 event, with athletes, fun-runners, and charity heroes coming together to experience the spectacular coastal route that sweeps “from the city to the sea.” This year also marked the return of the Front Runner Events City 5 Miler and the Freedom Leisure Family Fun Run, drawing runners of all ages and abilities to what has become a festival of running.
Crowds of spectators turned out in force to cheer on the participants, creating an electric atmosphere at key points along the route and especially at the finish line.
The day’s festivities were kicked off by the National Anthem, sung by soprano star Ros Evans, which set the tone for an incredible event. Tommy the Turtle and Ozzie the Osprey brought extra energy as he led a warm-up for the Family Fun Run participants.

Celebrating Performance & Community
The flat, fast course lived up to its reputation, with numerous personal bests and standout performances across all distances. A strong female elite presence was set this year with two new female records set by Wheelchair Athlete and Paralympian Mel Nicholls, of Coventry Godiva Harriers who crossed the line at 1:05:34, and regular attendee, Natasha Wilson, set the female half marathon record in 1:12:13. Omar Ahmed took first place in the men’s field once again in an impressive 1:03:13.

Joining the elites were Master’s athletes from England and Wales, who came compete in the second Masters Road International Championships of 2025. Runners from across the UK and beyond descended on Swansea, with many proudly donning club vests, while others embraced the fun in full fancy dress.
The City 5 Miler returned for its second year, attracting rising stars and community runners alike, while the Family Fun Run saw hundreds of youngsters and families complete the 2K loop, some for the first time ever.

Full race results, including age category winners and Corporate Challenge champions, will be announced tomorrow.
Tash Smith, Managing Director of Front Runner Events, said:
“We’re immensely proud of what today’s event represents — not just a race, but a community coming together. From seasoned athletes to those running their first ever 5 miler or half marathon, everyone played a part in making this a truly unforgettable day. Thank you to every runner, volunteer, supporter, and partner who brought this event to life.”
“A special thanks goes to our headline sponsor Swansea University, and our supporting partners at the LC, Brecon Carreg, the LC, Gravells, and Matthews & Co,. Their support helps us deliver a world-class experience here in Swansea.”
Charity, Challenges & Cheer

Once again, charity runners were out in force, raising thousands of pounds for good causes, including headline charity Shleter Cymru, and official partners at Maggie’s Swansea and Morgan’s Army.
