New Route Announced for the 2022 JCP Swansea Half Marathon

Organisers of the JCP Swansea Half Marathon have announced a route change for the 2022 edition of the race that takes place next month, on Sunday, 12th June.

The route will see runners start outside the city’s newest iconic landmark at the Swansea Arena. This will allow for everyone to finish at the same point creating an easier access to the race village, baggage collection and to meet up with their loved ones afterwards. The race will take runners up Mumbles Road towards the Brangwyn Hall, through the city’s streets back towards the Waterfront Museum and then out to Knab Rock with the lighthouse in view. As in previous years, athletes will grace the promenade taking in the stunning vista of Swansea Bay and return to the road at Brynmill Lane to the finishing straight at Swansea Arena.

David Martin-Jewell, Managing Director said:

“This year we have had to make changes to the route for the JCP Swansea Half Marathon due to the ongoing works to Trafalgar bridge. Although the new route will avoid the Maritime Quarter, I think it will provide an opportunity for an even faster course record and finishing times for our participants. We are excited to be staging the race outside the new Copr Bay development offering an incredible backdrop to welcome our runners and retain our rightful place of being Wales’ biggest and best Summer Half Marathon.”

The JCP Swansea Half Marathon is a popular event for runners from all over the UK and this year it will welcome participants from as far away as Brazil, the USA and Hong Kong. The event is also expected to attract some of the best athletes in Great Britain using the race in their training ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games at the end of July.

The 13.1 mile race is the only half marathon held on fully closed roads in Wales during the month of June. Entries are expected to close soon so anyone wishing to take part should sign up to avoid disappointment. To register your place to #RunSwansea head to: www.swanseahalfmarathon.co.uk
